Laborat{\'o}rio Nacional de Astrof{\'{\i}}sica, Brasil. A
posteriormente {\`a} emiss{\~a}o {\'o}ptica. Pesquisas
objetivando encontrar alguma modula{\c{c}}{\~a}o orbital na
curva de luz de longa dura{\c{c}}{\~a}o indicam a
presen{\c{c}}a de duas modula{\c{c}}{\~o}es peri{\'o}dicas com
~ 31 e ~ 110 dias. A an{\'a}lise espectral na curva de
varia{\c{c}}{\~a}o hist{\'o}rica da frequ{\^e}ncia do pulsar
efem{\'e}ride publicada anteriormente. ABSTRACT: This work
presents results of long and short time-scale optical photometry
of the symbiotic pulsating low-mass X-ray binary V2116 Oph/GX1+4
carried out at the 1.6 m and 0.6 m telescopes at Laborat{\'o}rio
Nacional de Astrof{\'{\i}}sica, Brazil. The discovery and the
results fo the 1996-1997 measurements of optical pulsations,
consistent with the X-ray pulsed period of the X-ray pulsar in
GX1+4, are reported. The UBVRI colors of the pulsed and DC
components of the optical spectrum of V2116 Oph and the prominent
flickering observed give strong support for the presence of an
accretion disk in this system. Syntetic composite spectral models
indicate that the accretion disk is probably 20 times brighter
than the giant star at 6600Å for E(B - V) ~ 2,1, when the system
is in the high optical state. The best composite spectrum is
obtained for a M6III star, and standard photometric relations
result in a distance to the system of 8.3 kpc and Mv(DC) ~ -4,2.
The cross-correlation between the optical light in the R band and
the X-ray flux measured by the ASM on the RXTE shows a ~ 5 day lag
in the sense that the X-rays arrive later than the optical
emission. Search for orbital modulation in the long-term
photometric light curve in the R band seems to indicate the
presence of two periodic modulations with ~ 31 and ~ 110 days.
Spectral analysis in the frequency variation history of the GX1+4
pulsar shows a ~ 300-days periodicity in the residual frequency
fluctuations with maxima compatible with earlier ephemeris.",
